Here we take a close look at the relationship between the treble and bass clefs, adding this imaginary middle C line to let us clearly see the GRAND STAFF. We also see the relationship between the clefs, the piano keyboard and the frequencies of the notes.
The frequencies (in hertz) shown on the left represent the cycles per second that each pitch vibrates at. With every jump of an octave, the frequency is either doubled or halved, depending on direction. These numbers can explain to us why some elements of music are the way they are - why certain combinations of notes are consonant and others are dissonant.
